Abstract |
|
Novel light metal matrix composites have been processed by powder metallurgy. The feasibility of manufacturing magnesium-based composites reinforced with carbon nanotubes has been assessed. Blends of metal powders and multi-walled carbon nanotubes were compacted by uniaxial hot pressing in graphite dies. A uniform distribution of nanotubes in the metal matrix has been obtained. Mg-2wt.%CNT composites exhibit Young’s modulus higher by more than 9 % with respect to unreinforced sintered magnesium. |
